Birmingham, AL -- Shelby Roden has filed one of the first lawsuits following the 2010 BP Oil Spill, just weeks after the initial explosion. Partners David Shelby, Robert Roden, and Shane Lucado attended the Joint Panel of Multi-District Litigation hearing in Boise, Idaho, resulting in creation of MDL 2179, which consolidated all BP Litigation. MDL 2179 was transferred to the Eastern District of Louisiana under the supervision of Judge Carl Barbier. Robert Roden was appointed to the Economic Damages Sub-Committee for the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee (PSC).
On August 23, 2010 the Gulf Coast Claims Facility (GCCF) opened and is being managed by Ken Fineberg, who also managed the 9/11 Family Trust among other Programs. Since the GCCF opening, Shelby Roden has submitted over 400 claims in excess of $100 million dollars for injured property owners and businesses along the Gulf. The GCCF helps many injured parties, but also has drawn criticism for arbitrary processing and payment guidelines, resulting in differing results for similar claimants.
