David D. Shelby

David Shelby


David Shelby is the founding partner of the firm. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Auburn University and returned to Birmingham to attend law school at the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, where he received his Juris Doctorate and Masters in Business Administration. In the beginning, his law practice focused on labor-management relations and evolved over time to focus on environmental and complex litigation.

Robert B. Roden



Mr. Roden has over 40 years of experience handling high-stakes, complex matters. Since joining the firm in 1999, he has focused on cases involving motor vehicle defects, dangerous dietary supplements, and chemical exposures. Over the course of his career, he has taken over 100 cases to trial, and settled countless others, including a $700 million settlement over PCB contamination in Anniston, AL.

M. Shane Lucado



Shane Lucado was raised in Oxford, Alabama. He attended college at Jacksonville State University about 20 miles from Oxford graduating in 1994 with a B.S. in psychology. After college, Shane started law school at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama graduating May of 1998. Shane has extensive litigation and trial experience in numerous federal and state courts.

C. Don Freeman



Don Freeman attended law school at the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. He received his undergraduate degree from Birmingham-Southern College. Since joining the firm, Mr. Freeman has helped recover over $100 million in economic damages in multi-district litigation. He has represented over 1000 businesses and individuals in disputes resulting from the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill. Mr. Freeman has been integral in the firm’s leadership efforts on the Litigation Committee for the Providers in Blue Cross and Blue Shield MDL 2406. He helped draft and file one of the first federal talcum powder lawsuits in the state of Alabama. Additionally, he has assisted in the claims submission and settlement of numerous asbestos claims to multiple defendant trusts.

Matthew T. Roden



Matt is a native of Birmingham, AL. He attended the University of Alabama School of Law where he received his Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration. Before law school, he received his bachelors at the University of Alabama where he was a member of Jason’s Senior Men’s Honor Society. Since joining the firm, he has focused his practice on handling toxic exposure and motorcycle accident cases.

M. Dykes Barber, Jr.



M. Dykes Barber, Jr. was born in Columbus, Georgia. However, he has resided in Birmingham, Alabama for most of his life. He attended college at Auburn University, graduating with a B.S. in Accounting. After college, Mr. Barber attended law school at the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. Mr. Barber has over 30 years of experience representing individuals who have been illegally harmed, seriously injured or killed pursuant to their employment or due to the fault of another person or entity. Mr. Barber has experience in trial and negotiation of significant monetary recoveries for people in multiple states. Since joining the firm, he has primarily focused his practice on motorcycle accident cases.
