The U.S. Navy JAG Corps has already received over 5,000 Camp Lejeune claims since the PACT Act was signed into law on August 10, 2022. These initial administrative claims are the first step toward receiving compensation for those who have suffered injuries due to the water contamination at Camp Lejeune. Marines, their family members, and civilian federal employees who worked or resided at Camp Lejeune between 1953 and 1987 are eligible to file a claim form with the Department of the Navy’s JAG Corps Tort Claims Unit in Norfolk, Virginia. The new legislation allows claimants two-years to file their initial claim form. The number of filed claims is only expected to increase with an estimated 1 million people who were potentially harmed by exposure to or ingestion of contaminated water at Camp Lejeune.
